This type of knife has a special triangular shaped sheaf decorated with copper wire.  It was only given by an Omukwaniilwa or Ohamba (King) from one of the Ovambo Kingdoms to a soldier or royal cattle herder. If that person died or disgraced the king, the knife was returned to the king.
