Ongondo (Anklet)

Ongondo (Anklet)

In 1868 Frederick Green, a trader, wrote “Large solid rings are manufactured from this malleable article (copper), with which they, the females in particular, decorate their arms and ankles. some wearing from ten to twelve of them”. It is believed that this item was only produced in the Ondonga Kingdom with copper that they obtained from trading with the San communities living around Tsumeb and Otavi.  The Ongondo (plural) were then sold to neighbouring communities.
