I have a total of six body piercings. Two of those were done when I was months old. Apart from getting the piercings for aesthetics, it was my way of having bodily autonomy. Having piercings has been without shaming. I’ve been called a bull mostly (Aawambo and OvaHerero) because of my septum piercing. There have also been assumptions about my sexuality, with most septum piecing as being associated with the queer community. All I can say is I love the work on my body and that is who I am. You cannot shame the shameless. I know that I am free.
